They use the same images and words and are simply a larger version of these cards.
Please note: there are no blends or soft sounds presented in the is file. Beginning/initial sounds means the onset sound is a single sound. This way, children can identify, learn and apply the correct sounds in both their reading and writing.
The 'x'!
The x sound has been highlighted at the end of the word fox. This is because when teaching sounds, there is no word in the English language that makes the x sound at the beginning of the word. When teaching sounds this is highly important so that children will have the knowledge and experience of the sound that x makes. This will therefore inform their reading and they will then be able to apply this knowledge when attacking words with the x sound. I also have provided a poster with an x at the beginning, should you like to teach the letter x instead of its sound. The letter has not been highlighted in the word 'xylophone' as there is no focus on the x sound in this word. The poster used to teach the x sound is fox.
