As a graduate student I was looking for a good resource for ideas on teaching reading and writing that I could use in a report I was writing. I found excellent theory and practical ideas. This book was very helpful. As a kindergarten teacher I liked the graphic organizers and the gray boxes throughout the book that give ideas from actual teachers. I find that this format makes it easy for me to quickly glance through the book and find a new idea. I would recommend this book to future teachers as well as current teachers. This text provides research-based information on the advances and refinements in the areas of emerging literacy and the early stages of formal instruction in reading and writing. Filled with concrete suggestions for classroom practice, it should be useful for the preservice and inservice professional development of teachers of pupils aged 5-8. It is also a useful resource for policy makers, administrators and supervisors as they plan and implement State and local early literacy initiatives.
This book has my name written on the cover with a small amount of highlighting on the inside.
