The same/different could be used with a remediation group, where as the heavy/light could be used with a more advanced group.
In my classroom, I have a sack of objects that the students pick from. They hold their arms straight out like a balance and clutch one in each hand. They then draw in the object (and label if they can) in the correct pan on their mats.
Ideas for objects: I usually just grab whatever "junk" I can find that is cluttering up my classroom!

box of crayons
cell phone (old ones in the toy bin)
post-it sticky note
piece of candy
pencil & cap eraser
post-it note & notebook paper sheet
paper clip & rubber band
