If your student or child has a problem with inappropriate reactions to situations (ex tantrum when told no), this chart can help. The caregiver and child manipulate tokens to determine on a scale of 1 to 10 what their reaction was (ex: crying, hitting, asking for help) as well as how big the problem truly was. The chart is then used to determine how/if the reaction matches the problem. This is an excellent conversation starter to begin exploring stressful situations and directly addressing disruptive reactions. It can also be used to introduce replacement behaviors.
This chart was modified from an exercise done with a school guidance counselor. I have formatted it to allow for description of reactions (with space for pictures, which is very helpful) and for description of the problem if that is appropriate. In addition, I have included a full page of directions and tips for best effectiveness.
Download comes in PowerPoint format to allow for personalization of behaviors and addition of pictures.
I hope this helps you! Please leave feedback. And check out my other items for your behavior management and special education needs.
