Classroom management is not always easy. If you are feeling tired of catching bad behavior, and stressed out about speaking to parents about problems their children are having, here is a solution to expensive or cumbersome systems of behavior incentives. Catch a child being good! This "happy note" can be sent home to one child per day. It gives children something to strive for, and it helps build rapport with parents who get nervous about how teachers perceive their children.
The note is saved as a Microsoft Word document that you can easily modify to delete or add phrases according to the expectations for your classroom. Tips for the selection process are included in the document. There are 4 notes on one sheet to help save paper when you're copying. Consider copying these notes on colored card stock.

"Hi! I am looking for a template to use to send notes to parents. Somewhere I read about a teacher who picks one student a day to write a "good news" type of note about. The note goes home with that student that day. The idea is to let parents know good things that their student is doing. This helps to develop rapport and support from the parent. I'd like a template that could easily be typed into to make a card. I'd also love some suggested phrases for the notes to help make this a quick daily task. Thanks!"

Glad you found them helpful, mine do too. I usually give them a choice between a Happy Note or a sticker, and they almost always choose the Happy Note :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been a fourth grade teacher at the same school for 7 years, where I teach presently. I taught third grade in a charter school for 3 years. Prior to my full time teaching career I was a paraprofessional for a teacher of the deaf for grades 1 and 2 for a year, and a preschool teacher for 2 years.
