Would you like to show students how a school can benefit from the power of wind energy? This is a great activity to celebrate Earth Day and learn more about wind energy.
Using the data from our school district's wind turbine, students will see how much energy can be produced by wind power. Includes a student worksheet and detailed directions to see our LIVE data. (NOTE: You will need an internet connection for this activity.)
Teachers can present the live information on a SmartBoard or projector for students, or students can individually view it on single computers. *Can be used as a PAPERLESS activity to reinforce the Earth Day theme!
The two-page worksheet includes one page of information gathering data from the wind turbine kiosk. The second page asks students questions from the "About Wind Energy" section. After collecting information, students can write a persuasive argument in favor of or opposing the possibility of wind power for their school district.

The project has been well developed. I couldn't give the best rating as I can't use the material 1:1, but have to adapt it for my purposes.

The activity does not require students to have computers; in the teacher's guide I listed ways to utilize it if they do not have access to the internet/computers. Hope you found it beneficial.

I've been teaching at my current public high school for twelve years, and have a total of 16 years experience. Most of my experience is teaching high school English and journalism classes; however, for several years I taught an art history class. I teach all levels--from honors students to special education students; therefore, I'm constantly modifying my assignments to fit my students' needs.
