This learning segment allows students to view, read and evaluate some famous contemporary and classic commencement addresses, practice note taking skills,connect their personal experiences and apply what they learned by practicing the art of writing a persuasive speech. Links in the lesson click out to videos of the graduation speeches as well as transcripts. The lesson can be used by a teacher as a lesson plan or he/she can post the lesson and use it as an e-learning experience. This is my 23rd year teaching. My husband (also an AP English teacher) and I launched our first son into college this summer. I teach AP English Language and newspaper journalism. Each instructional experience has helped me grow as a teacher- US Peace Corps; Togo (West Africa), inner city Miami, suburban Seattle, ESL in Korea, international school in Colombia, school of choice Miami, Florida Virtual School and now, suburban Atlanta.
