NOTE: This product is also available in a bundled product called Biology Labs: 15 Must Do Labs for a Biology Class .
Biochemical activities of living tissues frequently tend to change the pH. Yet life depends upon maintaining a pH that will not inactivate the enzymes working in that tissue. Can living tissues maintain a certain pH under normal conditions? In this lab, the student will observe how living cells are able to manipulate the pH of their environment by producing buffers to neutralize acids and bases. The lab is quick and easy to set up Students will chart and graph their data.
Your download will include handouts that are ready to be copied and passed out to your students. The lab handout includes: Title, Purpose, Introduction, Materials, Safety Precautions, Procedure, Analysis Questions, Student Data Pages, Answers to all Questions, and Teacher Preparation Notes.
You can choose to have your students write their own lab reports or you can use the included student data sheets. You will download two versions of the lab: An editable "Word" document and a pdf version.
Materials required for this lab are: pH meter or pH paper, .1N HCl, .1N NaOH, Buffer solution, pH 7, Liver and potato homogenates
