In this lab, students will observe prepared slides of whitefish and onion mitosis. After becoming familiar with the cells on the slide, students will conduct a random sample of cells to determine how much time, in minutes, is spent in each stage of mitosis. Students are required to chart and graph their data, and answer thought provoking questions. Your download will include Title, Purpose, Introduction, Materials, Safety Precautions, Procedure, Analysis Questions, Student Data Pages, Answers to all Questions, and Teacher Preparation Notes.
You can have the students write their own lab reports or you can choose to use the included Student Data Pages.
You will receive two versions of this lab: An editable Word document and a pdf document.
MATERIALS: Microscope
2 shallow beakers or cups
Prepared slides of onion and whitefish mitosis.
Graph paper
