As stated in the title, this is a lab on sponges and cnidarians. Students will look at prepared slides of the sponge, Leucosolenia, and prepared slides of hydra. Students will observe living cultures of hydra and make observations about their behavior. Daphnia will be used as a food source for the hydra. Feeding behavior of hydra will be observed.
Purpose: To observe the various structures of the sponges and coelenterates, and to observe the behavior of living hydra.
Materials: Prepared slide of the sponge, Leucosolenia, Methylene Blue, Prepared slide of Hydra, Weak solution of vinegar, Living culture of Hydra, Teasing needles, Living culture of Daphnia, Depression slides, Microscopes.
