The Hardy - Weinberg Principle is stated as an equation: p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1
This equation can be used to predict the percentage of a population having a certain genetic trait. In this lab, three genetic traits will be observed in a population. Students will conduct a random sample, and determine the frequency of the alleles in the population using the Hardy Weinberg equation. No materials are required other than pencil, paper, and calculator.
Note: This product is included in a bundled unit plan of products which can be
viewed here.
You will be downloading a folder that contains two versions of this lab. Use the first version if you want your students to write their own lab report on their own paper. Use the second version if you want to provide lab data sheets to your students on which they can record their data and answer the questions. You will also receive an editable Word document and a pdf version of the lab.
