I made a set of resources to cover the Black Peoples of the Americas with my Grade 8 class. These include a single PowerPoint with 16 lessons covered.
I've made worksheets to go with each lesson and am uploading the first three for anyone to use for free if you think they’re any good.
The lessons are fully explained and easy to follow by reading through the worksheets alone. Title, aims and curriculum relevance listed at the top.
Topics covered are; What is Slavery, Reasons why slaves were taken from Africa, The Slave Triangle, Life on the Plantations, Civil War, Abolition, What was Life like After Slavery?
Although the materials are enough for 16 lessons, to ensure a variety of stimulus for the students, there are some suggestions throughout for other media to be used in tandem. For example, clips from Roots could be used to add to some lessons and there are suggestions for songs to be used as well. All easily downloadable from YouTunes.
I've designed these lessons to develop a range of core skills and have given a difficulty rating (all, some, most) on each worksheet so students can easily see what they are aiming for.
Most of all I wanted to break down what can be a very difficult subject and make it accessable.
This is just the PowerPoint - I'll upload the worksheets in a seperate batch, please look out for it and make use of them if you find them useful!!
