This is a basic plot diagram that can be used with any short story or novel. It includes the following elements: Introduction (including setting: time, place, and mood), Characters (protagonist, antagonist, and minor characters), Inciting or Complicating Incident, Conflict, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action/Denouement, Conclusion. There is also space for students to write in the title and the author of the story they are outlining.
This can also work very well as a narrative outline for students who are working on writing their own stories.
