Are you ready to have your children "Blast Off" in Reading? Then, this is the unit for you! Kim has teamed up with her partner Michele Scannell to write the first unit in their Reading Workshop Series. This unit contains a monthly spreadsheet for the month, a weekly overview and prep sheet for each of the 4 weeks, 20 mini lessons written in ready to use lesson plan form, 6 anchor charts with all the pieces made and ready to reproduce, a student anchor chart notebook with anchor charts photos in black and white for each student, and a super cute craftivity to use for the end of unit celebration. These lessons teach your kiddos how to get started with reader's workshop, choosing books, print concepts, and parts of a book! The learning will be out of this world!

Sorry you feel that it was false advertising...no false advertising intented. I am a little "techno" challenged and it's the only way I know how to mark down a product. Just want to give teachers the opportunity to get the bundle at a cheaper rate. Guess I have something new to learn.
"Took" down the sale and placed the unit at 20% off with the help of my techno-geek. Hope that clarifies the intent of my sale...

Yes there is Reader's Workshop Bundle 1 that had units 1-3 and bundle 2 that has units 4-6. We will bundle 7-9 once we finish 9.

Do these units cover the read aloud (with skill focus) portion of the reader's workshop only? Or do they include a shared reading and phonics portion as well! Thanks!

I am trying to copy and paste the lesson plans into my lesson planner I use to turn into my principal (so I won't have to retype what is on the page) and it will not let me select the text and copy. Deanna Jump's writing unit is the same type as yours, but allows me to copy and paste. Any suggestions?

Hi Kim.
I've been to one of your trainings last year and I will see you again this May in Tampa.
Question, I bought 5 or 6 readers workshop units already. My problem, I teach Prek. Want to do a reading workshop "Lite" with them to get them prepped for K. Hints for starting out? (unit 1 still seems tough)

Thanks
Connie

These units are for k-1 so for pre k here's what I would do....I would slow down and use the parts from the units that best fits the prek standards. For example, in unit 1 I would really concentrate on the book lovers and parts of a book. I would use the retelling pieces from units 2 and 3. There are parts in each unit that you could use, but I would just pick and choose from each unit the parts that fit your standards.

I have been looking at each of your reading workshop units. Is this what you do during guided reading time or is this whole group? If it is during guided reading, do you do the same for each group? If it isn't during guided reading, what do you do? Thanks so much for sharing your great ideas!

These are our mini lessons that we do with the whole class. They last about 10 minutes. Then, we send the kids off to read from their bags of books. During that time, we pull small groups to do guided reading. Hope this helps.

Hi. I teach in a Spanish Immersion Preschool program. That means that I teach all day in Spanish to children who don't know Spanish. This way they become fluent naturally over the years in our elementary. I want to improve the independent reading of my 4-year-olds. Would this unit be good and worthwhile when I really need all materials for displaying in Spanish? Thank you.

Hey Kim! My name is Miranda. You did a workshop at my school, Callahan Elementary, today, October 16, 2012. I know you said this at the workshop but I don't think everyone heard you. So I can go back and relay some information I wanted to ask again. I noticed that you can purchase 1 license for your products or multiple license at a discounted rate. The question is this...do you have a separate amount for a "site" license?

I pretty much think I know the answer and I have done all the math, just wanted to clarify with you before I send this proposal to purchase the Reading and Writing workshops for our K grade level.

Thanks in advance for you help and thank you again for your time today during the workshop. You are absolutely AMAZING!!!!

Kim, love your units! I have a question. The other units in your reading workshop are broken down into what you do each week. Can you break this one down? Also are these units meant to be taught in order or can you change them around? Thanks :)

Hey Christi! Working on the break down. As far as the order...I think they follow an order, but really the first two units are the ones that I think everyone should do first. These set the stage. After that, it might be that you can mix the order up to meet a sequence that your county is asking you to follow.

Alternatively, if you go to the product (only works for products you have purchased), there is a tab called "Ratings and Comments" which brings up the same rating and feedback form.

I think you would find our units a good fit with the Lucy Caulkin's Reading Worskhop. Our first four units are: Launching the Reading Workshop (Blasting off with Reader's Workshop), the 2nd unit is Powerful partnerships where we have mini lessons on working with a partner and retelling, and the 3rd unit is on Digging deeper with characters and settings. Our 4th unit is Investigating Patterns. We are still working on that unit.

1. It sounds like you are either opening with an old version of Adobe Reader or if you have a Mac, you may be opening it with a Mac program called "Preview" and not even know it.
Preview has documented problems opening modern Adobe files. If you have a Mac, try opening Adobe Reader first (rather than just double clicking on the file), then open the file within
Adobe Reader.
You may also choose to set the default reader to Adobe Reader by following the instructions below.

2. If you are still having opening and you know you are using Adobe, look to see if you have a newer version. You can check the version by clicking Help then About from within reader. If you have a version earlier than 5.0 or 6.0, you should update your reader. Please let us know if either of these actions solves the problem.

Thanks!

The mini lessons should last between 10-15 minutes. Some of them are a little longer at the beginning of the year because they haven't developed enough stamina to sustain reading independtly so more time might be in large group. But as a general rule 10-15 minutes.

Also, have you ever posted a list of the order in which you teach your units/themes? If so, where can I find it? From what I have read Daily 5 incorporates reading, writing and word work all in the same time frame. When I present my ideas ata conferences, many people ask if I do Daily 5...and I don't. However, there is great overlap in the two ways because both focus on the craft. Which ever approach you take, you would be able to use these mini lessons. Here's how I am doing them: I made the chart on a piece of poster board with just the title! Then I laminate the poster. Now as I introduce each part of the anchor chart, I am going to simply stick it to the chart with double sided tape.
