This file includes a fun resource to help teach the 'concept' of blends - 'The Blends Train' . Use the 2 posters to help explain how two individual single sounds are pronounced so quickly that they almost sound like one new sound.
Also included in this pack are two games. One game has two versions, so you really get 3 games!
'Blends Train' has two versions and is a great printable card game for an individual or small group of up to four players (each - so have 8 players play at once).
Each version of the game deals with nine of the eighteen main consonant blends that come in the initial position of words. The words we have selected all come in ccvc format, so are perfect for when students are first learning blends and only know single sounds (all words can be sounded out).
In these games, children will have fun covering words as a corresponding blend is uncovered.
Children should learn consonant blends after they have learned their single sounds a-z.
The other game 'Blends Train Cover It' is played to traditional bingo/lotto rules. Each player has a different game board and must spin the printable spinner to find a blend to cover on their board.
The file features 2 posters, a teaching tips page, 2 detailed instruction sheets, 15 game boards and eighteen blend flashcards, a spinner, 2 cover pages and a tracing worksheet.
