Help students organize writing better by focusing on great openings or bold beginnings. From Ruth Culham's 6 + 1 Traits of Writing (The Complete Guide for the Primary grades), these materials can be used with the focus lesson "Ring of Leads". File includes PDF and Word or Excel sets of mini-posters on types of leads, a student reference page with lead types and examples, and a self-assessment checklist students can use to evaluate the openings they use in their work. Also included is a "buddy editing checklist" for students to work with partners on reviewing organization.
