The creative process is the choice of stimuli expressed in words, phrases and sentences.
This activity allows the student to create at a basic level, choosing a word for each blank, creating one of 100,000 sentences. When the student is allowed/challenged to submit his own word for one or more blanks, another level of creativity is reached.
Suggested Materials:
-Cardstock, as it will help the blocks hold their shape better and can still be printed upon.
-Adhesive - Any child-safe adhesive will function. IMPORTANT NOTE: Keep in mind the material onto which the block patterns are printed. Heavier adhesives could soak through anything less than cardstock, causing bleeding for ink-jet printed blocks. Glue sticks work very well, used carefully. For an added bit of protection, use transparent tape to seal the blocks!
-Scissors or single-blade cutters, such as X-Acto knives. When using the latter, consider using a ruler for straighter and cleaner edges.
-"A few hands" - this can be an in-class art project for your class giving them some "ownership" of the project and their education. It also works well for a family project (ask my youngest!).
