Sending home book bags is a great way to ensure that your students have reading materials at home. Help your parents make the most out of this experience by providing them instructions for how they can engage their child in meaningful conversation about the text at hand. Parents are instructed how to build background knowledge, set the purpose for reading, read for entertainment, make an emotional connection and hold their child accountable for listening by asking them questions from the "Reading Skill Practice" page. I glued these pages to each side of a file folder and placed them in each student's book bag where they were left for the entire year. Parents were so thankful for the information and my students reaped the benefits!

I enjoy teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum. I have experience with Saxon Math, Write Tools, 6-Trait Writing, Step Up to Writing, Balanced Literacy, and various reading programs.
