This resource can be used in a variety of ways. One popular way to read different genres is to spread them out throughout the school year - doing a different genre each month or so. Students will soon know what is expected and things should run smoothly by the second or third book.
In order to facilitate exploration of the genres, both the guided book reports and the projects on the project choice grids have been tailored for each genre. For example, the Historical Fiction report focuses more on the setting, while the Mystery report focuses more on plot and the Realistic Fiction report is focused more on the main character.
These will print out fine in color or grayscale. The entire packet is offered in both PDF and Word formats for easy editing.

Great work. These have turned out to be very useful as we study different genres. The kids have a tic-tac-toe board and as they finish each packet, they (and I) cross it out on their board. The questions work well.

Awesome to use as a supplementary reading activity focusing on genre! We always do a directed study of a book together, but many of my students want to continue reading another book in the same genre -- this provides generic, engaging work for them and helps me check comprehension easily!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching.
