This very thorough persuasive writing assignment would make a great team activity as students brainstorm considerations for having Olympics in a particulary place. Research is required to determine considerations and why a particular place would be good for the Summer Olympics of 2016 since a city has not been determined as of yet.
After brainstorming, students must compose a persuasive letter (individually or as a team) to the Olympic Committee. This would might a nice bulletin board display or addition to a writing portfolio or both.
NOTE: If you don't have access to a color copier and would like to print these in color, print them right from your printer using a heavier stock paper.

I have taught for 36 years at the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade levels. Fifth grade is my first love. I teach all major subject areas. In addition to my regular classroom duties, I have taught in a Basic Skills summer school program for many years as well as taught workshops to co-workers in whole language and technology. My other duties at school include being "Teacher in Charge" and Student Council advisor.
