Students in middle and high school often complain that the standardized essay prompts are too boring. This one page handout has students create the most boring topic they can and then pass the paper around in their group of 4. The rotations have the other group members brainstorm and generate ideas using the most boring topic. When it returns to the original topic writer they have great ideas to work with and see that even the most boring of topics can have something unique about them.
