I created this with 3 students of mine in mind. It's been so helpful getting them the letter/sound and blending practice they needed! During center time for each CVC word family, I gave my students two days of Part 1, two days of Part 2, and 1 day to assess with Part 3. After they got the hang of it,they were able to do Part 1 and 2 in two days at their centers and pass the spelling assessment on day 3!
3 Part CVC & Spelling Activity
Part 1: Give students 3 pennies or counters. Have them put a counter on each letter as they say the sound of each letter to sound out the word.
Part 2: Students try to remember the letter/sound that belongs in each box and write it down.
Part 3: After plenty of practice give students the spelling test and see if they can remember how to sound out each picture and spell it!

Common Core Standard: RF.K.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or most frequent sound for each consonant.
Common Core Standard: RF.K.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.

I am a Kindergarten teacher from Orlando, Florida. *Update* I am teaching Advanced 2nd grade for the 2012-2013 school year. I love using technology and fun activities to enhance my teaching. I attended the University of Central Flordia and majored in Elementary Education. I was appointed team leader my second year teaching and pride myself on being a dedicated passionate teacher. I tutor 1st grade students after school, interned in 2nd grade while obtaining my degree and also work with 3rd and 4th grade students on Saturday morning, prepping for FCAT. Before teaching I was a nanny for two different families for 3 years. I love working with children and I love teaching so much. I feel it's what God called me to do.
