This is a great created math project that can be done alone or in a group. I prefer using it in a group to get students working together collaboratively. You can allow students to use a calculator but it is much more challenging and encourages mental math skills without one. The time for each event can vary depending on the level of your kids. It would work great for any middle years classroom and possibly early high school. There is a two sided blank event sheet provided where students record their answers. There is also a key provided. There are 10 separate events which promote different math skills including:
- Addition / Subtraction
- 4 Mathematical Operations
- Reading Numbers
- Rounding
- Expression Comparison
- Reading Numbers and Addition
- Greater than, Less than, Equal to
- Math Message
- Bubble Challenge
- Prime Factor Tree
A great project that can be used year after year and fairly easily manipulated to create a different competition of your own. A sample of the first event is given. Only part of the event is shown. It is very challenging.
