There are many versions of calendar notebooks but I was just not able to find one that fit our exact needs with the new CORE Math Standards so I created one.

I found that student engagement during calendar tends to decrease as students get used to the routine of calendar. So, now that we have spent time learning the routine it is time for each student to get their own Calendar Companion. Students bring their 3 prong notebook and a pencil back to calendar everyday. They complete calendar with us everyday in their notebook.

Here is what is inside their Calendar Companion:

- monthly calendar fill-in

- number of the day sheet (tally the number, write the number word, find ten more, ten less, one more and one less, write the number in expanded notation, represent the number in base ten)

- weather graph/analysis

- reference sheet (months of the year, days of the week, number line, color words, number words, hundreds chart)

- tooth and birthday graph

- counting days at school chart

- write the date page

Do you tally the number everyday? I am not sure how the students would have the time.

Angie,
I bought your Calendar Companion to use in my classroom this year. It is great. My only problem is that we have past the one hundredth day of school...and the Number of the Day page doesn't work anymore. Do you have one that you use for this time in the school year? Do you do anything different as the year progresses! Thanks!

I have bought your other wonderful common core math units. I already do a calendar notebook but I'm looking for a new daily math sheet. Is there anyway I could just purchase your daily math sheet from you?

Love the companion!!! For the number of the day sheet, how many do you put in their companion notebooks? One for each day of school? Thanks.

I am looking to buy the calendar companion to go with all the math units. I can't tell from looking at the sample exactly haow many pages they need? Do they have one bundle for a day, week, month? I need to know if this is going to be an unreasonable amount of copying or how "do-able it is.
Can you please briefly explain how many pages each chold gets each week or month?
TIA

Hi,
The kids replace the pages from the calendar once a month. The "Count the Days at School" stays in the notebook throughout the year as does the reference page, so I copy these on cardstock paper for durability. Each month the calendar, write the date, graph the weather and number of the day pages are replaced. I have seen a HUGE increase in the amount of engagement my kids show during calendar. Hopefully I have answered your questions, if not please let me know :)
Thanks

I cut apart a 100's chart and put the pieces in a empty tissue box. I choose one child to come to the front and choose a number out of the box. This is the number we use for the number puzzle. We find ten more, ten less, one more and one less of the chosen number. I model for the kids the base ten blocks as we complete the number puzzle. If you have any other questions please let me know :)
