Camping Adventures is a game I designed for my son to practice his speech therapy target sound- /k/. Includes thirty (30) phrase cards with the /k/ in initial, medial, and ending positions.
Objective: Draw a card and read or repeat/echo ( if the child cannot read yet) making a good /k/ sound. Be the first to get to the end where the yummy smore is waiting!
Players: 1-4 players
Simply print the game board and /k/ phrase cards, laminate, and cut apart.
Add game markers and a die.
Child does not have to say phrase correctly to roll the die and advance. For my purposes, this was designed to make practicing /k/ sounds fun for my reluctant son!
As an added challenge and to foster using the /k/ phrases in context, have the child use the phrase in a sentence or have them echo a sentence you say.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

24 years teaching reading and language arts, and I still LOVE it! I've been a reading specialist for the last ten years and most recently a literacy coach for Pre-K to grade 5 in an elementary school. I began my career teaching honors British and World Literature to high school juniors and seniors. Developed elective course curricula for Shakespeare and Women In Literature courses. Next, I moved on to middle school, teaching grade 8 English Language Arts for 7 years. English department chair for 6 years. Worked as a literacy resource teacher for grades 6-8 and wrote, coordinated, and led professional development to teachers on a weekly basis for four years.
