"Caption It!" is a standards-based activity that features over 25 images for students to write captions. Directions are included for both a creative writing exercise and an expository (journalism) writing exercise.
Caption writing is a shorter writing exercise that still practices proper conventions of grammar, usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling in standard English. Start with these shorter exercises before moving to larger writing pieces such as formal essays. In addition, fostering creativity makes the process of writing more enjoyable for students.
Bundle includes handouts, the images, and a Powerpoint presentation with the photo prompt images embedded.
The activity aligns with the Common Core Standards for grades 6-12 in Writing, which are listed in the document.

I love all your products! My only concern is that 9 of the slides don't have images. They are slides: 9,10,11,14,18,20,22,26, and 30. The message says that the linked image cannot be displayed. Any ideas?

Hi beaglemama - That usually happens when the file is moved from one location to another. It can't find the original images if it was moved out of the folder or saved in a different location. :( To relink, go back to the original zipped folder; you should have a file that contains all the images in it. I think I explained in the directions how to relink the images in case that happens. But if not, just click on the box and relink from the folder of images provided. I also included the pdf version, so you can open that up to see all the pictures. (I actually display the pdf version for my students because it loads faster and I never have problems if I move the file around on my computer.) -Tracee

Great ideas and photos. Struggled with the Zip file but fortunately my son was home from college and he helped me. I had to send the powerpoint to my school computer. Can't wait to use these! I am unable to access the ideas for the expository writing activities. Also, some of the powerpoint slides are blank. Disappointed.

The PowerPoint isn't displaying some of the pictures. There are 8 slides and the message says something like " the link can't be displayed...verify the location." Do you have any suggestions about how to fix this?

Hi Beaglemama - Sorry you are having problems! For some reason Powerpoint just doesn't always embed the pictures, so I included them in the folder "Photos for caption writing." On the slide that is not showing the image, click on the broken link and I think you just go to "insert" > "photo" and select the picture from the file. Or if you have a Mac, you can just drag the photo right into that broken link box.
