An in class timed, writing, this activity has a pre writing sheet and suggested time line. For lower-level students who need some guidance in using in text citations, this helps organize both you and your students. The essay asks students to prove or disprove a statement about Holden Caulfield using textual evidence. I had a lot of success with it a few weeks ago!

A former Advertising Account Executive, this is my4th year teaching 10th grade English at Oakland Mills High School in Howard County, Maryland. I teach a diverse group of students from review level (below grade level) to honors (above grade level). I am also involved with an English after school Academic Enrichment program to help students to pass the Maryland State Assessments. Currently, I also tutor students privately outside of school.
