Whether you want to teach poetry writing or have a fun and different way for students to share books, this activity will meet student needs! Students learn to write Acrostic poetry with plenty of examples and a structured format. Then they have the freedom to create on their own. The activity lends itself to whole group instruction or may be used to differentiate instruction for individuals. The Pocket Folder Learning Center is particularly effective with older students who want more independence. This 17-page packet includes directions for the teacher, a folder cover, student directions, Example Handouts, an Answer Sheet, and colorful stationary for displaying final results. Students will enjoy creating these easy Acrostic poems while they also share interesting information about books they have read.

My teaching experience includes 25 years as a K-12 teacher, curriculum administrator, and district federal/state programs administrator. As a teacher, I specialized in middle school language arts and mathematics. Since retiring from the K-12 system, I have been teaching curriculum and education courses at the bachelors' and masters' degree levels as well as supervising student teachers. I am also a successful grant writer, specializing in competitive state and federal grant projects. As a private contractor, I also work to help teachers who need assistance to improve their skills.
