This is a great activity that I have used with several different levels in short story and novel study units.

The character wheel is a great graphic organizer that helps students focus on and organize the personality of the character and finding supporting evidence from the text.

The character sketch template is another scaffold step in the creation of a 3-5 paragraph character sketch. It helps the students step by step, paragraph by paragraph, to create a written sketch of a character.

This file also includes a character sketch assignment and marking rubric. The assignment can be tailored to any short story or novel.

I often use just the character wheel at the beginning of a novel and at the end so that students can see any growth or change in a character.
