Character Trait Words - 42 Bright & Colorful Words + Worksheet

These are free because I think character education is so very important! I hope you will share them with your colleagues.
Once you print, cut, and laminate these colorful character words you can use them in a variety of ways in your classroom. Here are some suggestions:
Start a "Word of the Week Program." Each week choose a different word to display on a special bulletin board. Have students complete the included worksheet (there are two versions for different grade levels) or have them write about the word in their journals. Use the word for class discussions and role playing activities. Encourage students try to demonstrate the trait as much as possible during the week.
Pick out a few that you particularly want to emphasize and display around the classroom.
Distribute words randomly as a writing prompt ("Write about a time when you demonstrated this trait").
Divide students into small groups or pairs and give each group a word to role play.
At a center, students can work alone or in pairs with 6-12 words, putting the words in order by importance.
For class discussion, randomly pick two words. Ask the students to vote on which is the more important trait. Discuss.
Choose three traits. Discuss what a person who embodies these three traits would be like. How would he/she behave? What kinds of things would he/she enjoy doing?
Pages have guidelines for easy cutting (just 2 passes with the paper cutter)

Thanks so much! My 4th graders are currently researching famous people from our state for our annual pocket person project. For one of the pockets, they are supposed to think about what character traits their person has that they admire. Having these colorful words available will be really helpful!

This is great! These words are also a great resource to use when identifying traits in the characters the students read about. So often, I think when you ask "how can you describe so and so" all I end up with is nice or mean because the kids don't have the words to help them describe. This is awesome! Thank you!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching.
