Use these 32 short answer task cards to practice inferring character traits. The short answer format is both challenging and somewhat open-ended. While a sample answer key is included, students may come up with synonymous words that will work equally well. Any answer that the student can justify using the text is acceptable. An answer sheet is also included for the first question on each card. Students can answer the second question on notebook paper, or you could use the second part for discussion. These task will work well for reading strategy centers, stations, or for partner work.
These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.
