When I was doing a long term sub assignment in third grade, the school read aloud was Charlotte's Web. I made a journal for each child. There is a section in the journal for each chapter. The children were instructed to write 3 new events that happened in each chapter. I also made 4 different crossword puzzles using the vocabulary words from the story. There is a puzzle for the vocabluary words for Chapters 1 to 5, Chapters 6 to 10, Chapters 11 to 15, and Chapters 16 to 20. There is a word bank included on each crossword puzzle.
