This a semester exam for a first year chemistry course. It covers the topics that are typically covered during the second semester. The exam is entirely multiple choice and consists of 100 questions/problems. This exam is meant to be taken in a two hour block of time. In some years our school scheduled one hour exams; I simply gave this exam in 2 days.
I have included an answer sheet on which students can record their answers. I have included all answers. Students will need to use a periodic table during the exam. Students will also need a solubility curve to use for some of the problems. I have included this as well.
You will receive an editable Word document as well as a pdf version of the exam.
The topics covered are:
1. Chemical formulas
2. Moles
3. Converting between moles / mass/ molecules.
4. Molar volume of a gas
5. Percent composition
6. Types of chemical reactions: synthesis, decomposition, single and double displacement
7. Predicting the products of the above types of reactions
8. Balancing equations
9. Stoichiometry problems
10. Limiting reactants
11. Temperature scales
12. Phases of Matter
13. Converting between different units of pressure (mmHg, atm, kPa)
14. Heating Curves
15. Calorimetry
16. Thermochemistry
17. The gas laws
18. Solutions and Solubility
19. Molarity and molality
