INTRODUCTION
You (the student) have already learned how to determine mass and volume using laboratory equipment. Now you will use the relationship between mass and volume to determine the density. Determining mass is easy - you simply place the object on the balance and read the mass. Volume may be determined in a variety of ways. Volumes of liquids are measured directly using a graduated cylinder. Volumes of solids are measured in one of two ways. If the solid has a uniform, regular shape, the volume may be determined by the equation: V = length x width x height. If the solid has an irregular shape, you will have to determine the volume by water displacement.

PURPOSE
1) To practice the techniques used to determine mass and volume
2) To learn to calculate the density of a variety of objects.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
Metric ruler, Glass squares, Wood Block, Calculator, Balance, 100-mL Graduated cylinder, Glass beads Pennies, Copper strip, Rubber stopper, Cork, 10-mL graduated cylinder, Distilled water, Ethanol, Vegetable oil.
