This is a fun way for students to practice or review the vocabulary for vegetables in Mandarin Chinese. The activity is magic squares. There are 16 squares in each grid and each contains either the character for the vegetable or a picture. Below the grid are 16 pinyin words or pictures. The student writes the number for the match in the grid. If done correctly, each row, column, and diagonal add up to 34. There are 4 puzzles total on 4 pages. Great as a class starter or for a substitute. Two puzzles have characters and two have pinyin.

I have been teaching World Language (French, Spanish, Italian) at the elementary, middle and high school levels for 16 years. I regularly present foreign language teaching methodology workshops at state, regional and national conferences and in teacher preparation programs at various universities. I have spent time volunteering in schools in impoverished areas of Nicaragua and a portion of the money earned through TPT is used to buy school supplies (pencils, paper, books) for students at the Panama School in La Concha, Nicaragua.
