This 101-page literature unit is the perfect way to differentiate learning for middle school students! Students CHOOSE their own novels and participate in reading, discussions, and creative activities. The unit includes complete lesson plans for the teacher as well as colorful handouts, Book Discussion Groups, a Student Learning Contract, and a Unit Evaluation Rubric used for self-evaluation by students and final evaluation by teacher. Students complete a series of required activities, including Reading Logs, and 1-sentence Chapter Summaries. They also have CHOICE Activities, and they do a final Class Presentation (most students choose PowerPoint presentations). Capture student attention at critical times of the year and, when students do their class presentations, give students the advantage of learning about many more novels they may want to read! The unit includes directions and materials for 3 Pocket Learning Centers that are also sold separately (Book Discussion Groups, Advertising Your Novel, and Character Acrostics). It also includes the Literary Genres crossword puzzle with key (sold separately), and a FREE PowerPoint introducing literary genres is also available in my store. You will want to do this unit EVERY year!

Love this packet - there is a ton to it. I printed a copy of all of the pages for myself - to see it all in hand, and then chose a few for the students to do. I like that I can use it with any novel.

This unit is great! Very innovative and creative. I really like having a rubric that both students and teacher can use. I know my students will like having so many good choices. One of the best things about this unit is that I can use it over and over --and students can just make different choices! There were some pages repeated but I didn't mind because it gave me a better picture of what the student booklet would look like without having to search for the handouts. Thanks!!!

The materials are great. Some of them will really help students think about what they are reading which is a definite plus!! My only frustration was that the activities are put in the .pdf 2 and 3 times so it really isn't 91 pages of instruction. It is more like 70 pages. I was expecting 91 different pages of material. I think that students would enjoy the activities instead of the typical analysis style paper/project format. Nice job putting the project together!

There are a lot of repeated pages - some for the teacher, some for student packets. An inordinate amount of paper would be used if you were to print this entire pack out, plus make student packets. It practically has to be printed out in order to sort through and get a feel for all of the contents. Instead of making student packets, I might print one of each activity out and have students request the ones that they want. Either way, there are some very nice ideas and activities here. Well worth the cost!

You won't be able to do "save as" but you should be able to move it from your download folder to the flash drive. On a mac (that's what I use), you could just move the downloaded file to your desktop and then from the desktop to the flash drive. Or if you have the flash drive icon visible, the download could go directly to the flash drive. Hope this information helps you. If you have more questions, email me at create.n.time@mac.com
