This is a great "day before the holiday" activity. It is a 9 page document, two pages are background provided for the teacher's introduction. Included is the text of the article "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus." Activities included are: 10 reading check questions, 6 vocab words extracted from the article and set in a chart that requires definitions based on context clues and original sentences, 10 higher-order thinking questions, an acrostic requiring the listing of concepts associated with the holiday season, and an "exit ticket" requiring summary of the article. There are 4 graphics including one of the original article and one of the newspaper banner. This is a lovely activity for kids who may have become a bit jaded and too cool for Santa. :} It provides a refreshing perspective on the holiday season. Thank you for your consideration. Enjoy and Merry Christmas.
