In this packet, students create a book that depicts Christmas customs from around the world. The countries included are the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Mexico, and the United States. There are several Christmas customs celebrated in these countries and I have chosen only a few. The customs that I have included are: setting out wooden shoes for St. Nicholas, candles, gingerbread houses, Saint Lucia hats, breaking a pinata, Christmas trees, Santa Claus, and a Christmas crib. If you cannot do religious Christmas in your school, I have added La Befana, a witch in Italy who brings treats to children on the feast of Epiphany. A full color, original book with pictures of each custom as well as flags from each country is included. I have added line drawings of the flags for students to color. I have also included a map of North American and Europe to aid in study of the countries. The book can be laminated and used as an introduction to the unit and as a resource as you travel from country to country. The pages are not ordered so you can pick and choose the countries that you want to study. Step by step drawings for how to create the illustrations in the student book are included as well as Christmas word wall words. I have included 2 reading levels for the booklets to aid in your differentiated learning. Short descriptions of each custom as well as a few book recommendations are included at the end of the packet. To save on printing costs, I have given you word strips that can be cut and glued onto construction paper instead of printing an entire book for each of your students.
