Hi, Sarah! I'm excited about using the Christmas Around the World scrapbook with my firsties this week!! I thought I remembered seeing pictures of past ones your students completed as examples that were totally cute - and I wanted to have one last look for inspiration - but now I can't find them...did I imagine those pictures? :D At this time of the year it's possible... They are all in color--I was lucky enough to have someone offer to copy them all for me for free, but others on my grade level have printed them out in black and white, and they still look cute!

Even looking at the four preview pages, I couldn't get a good feel for what kinds of things the lessons will actually entail. I see the unit's gotten lots of positive feedback but some of it was from K-1 teachers -- do you think it would still be effective for a 3rd grade class?

This is a useful tool for all elementary ages, and the scrapbook itself is to be used as a fun reminder for the students to record the information they have learned from each country. The scrapbook includes a teacher's guide that gives you ideas for crafts, picture books, and food that will make the journey around the world exciting and fun. You may want to find additional information or add map skills for your 3rd graders, but I really think they will enjoy it!

My page on Sweden says, "We sampled cinnamon buns and hot cocoa"--they fill out boxes as to whether they liked it or not. But, you don't have to actually eat the food! Maybe you could just pretend? I have just a few other food ideas included in the teacher's guide, but they are optional. I think you could still have lots of fun with this packet, without the food included.

I have a few crafts, but most of the items will be things they add to the scrapbook, like pictures/artifacts, or activities you would complete as a group. (Breaking open a pinata, decorating stockings, etc.)
