Looking to do a fun little writing activity? Studying steps in a process? Love chocolate? thought so!!!
This is a hot cocoa literacy center activity.
There are a couple of ways you can use this activity.
Students can take the mixed up sentence strips on the steps to making hot cocoa and put them in order. They will then write them in order in paragraph form using the creative hot cocoa themed writing paper. After everyone has done the activity, make some hot cocoa. Next, they can think of another 'how to' writing activity and use the organizer to organize their thoughts on teaching someone how to do something.
If you wanted to do a whole class activity, you could make some hot cocoa with the class. Next, use the organizer for them to retell the steps used to make it. After they write the steps in order on the organizer, they will write it in paragraph form on the themed writing paper. If you do it this way, they will be coming up with their own steps.
Sentence strips, directions, writing paper, and a graphic organizer are included. There is also a cute themed cover sheet if you choose to use it as a literacy center.

Great way to introduce steps in a process. I had my students do this activity with partners, then we had hot chocolate together. The weather cooperated, and we had a snow delay the day we did this lesson.

My class is doing a book study on the Polar Express. I cannot wait to use this activity with it. We will enjoy drinking our hot cocoa and the movie when we are finished! Thanks!
My students absolutely loved this! Making cocoa was all I heard about all week, and they thought I was just the best teacher ever! for once, getting them to write was not met with groans, it is always more fun to do when accompanied by their own cup of cocoa!
