This is an original work.
For a school concert or musical production, the challenge is to mesh diverse performances into a unified and seamless whole.
"Grandfather's Memories"(which runs between 60 and 90 minutes) provides that framework for a school or church musical production involving 100 to 400 students. Within that framework, there is room for up to 12 song, dance or drama presentations.
Each class performs a musical performance of its own choosing (or as suggested.) These performances relate to one of grandfather's memories; for example, country dances, cutting the tree in the woods, etc. There is room to adapt or change to fit specific needs.
These performances are inserted at intervals into the structure of the "grandfather's memories."
This musical, linked together by monologues and dialogues of a very strong "grandfather" character with his grandchildren and others, ends with a reading from the Bible, the "greatest story ever told."
In addition, there is an optional slideshow on a big screen of students and their grandparents. We used the Judds' song "Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days" during this grand finale. It was amazing! The event can also end with all the participants singing "Tell Me 'Bout The Good Old Days" on stage. Either way, it is a nostalgic, respectful and powerful presentation!
