This unit contains activities related to Christmas celebrations around the world. THIS PRODUCT IS ALSO AVAILABLE AS PART OF MY CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES FOR INTERMEDIATE GRADES - BUNDLED PACKAGE
The activities focus mainly on 4 countries: Mexico, England, France, and Germany. Included are 3 main types of activities:
1) Countries Fact Sheets - Four full-color, illustrated pages for each country are included. The pages detail each country's customs, decorations, traditional foods, and gift bringers. The pages can be printed out and compiled into booklets. As students read each booklet, they fill in the appropriate parts of the included Countries Chart to compare each country. Each fact sheet is included in both a pdf and MS Word format. Also included is a Foreign Vocabulary Card for each country listing Christmas words and phrases in that country's official language.
2) Gift Bringers eBook - This PowerPoint presentation highlights the gift bringers of 8 countries (Japan, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, England, and Russia). After viewing/reading the ebook, students complete and print out the included MS Word template about the ebook.
3) Hands-On Reading Passages - Included are 4 reading passages and comprehension questions written similarly to test prep passages. Each passage details the history of a Christmas custom and includes a no cook recipe or directions for creating a craft related to the passage. Students read the passage, create the recipe or craft, and answer the comprehension questions. Passages include: Pinatas (Mexico), Yule Logs (France), Christmas Crackers (England), and Candy Canes (Germany). An answer key is included.
4) A vocabulary activity, "Vocabulary Stocking Stuffers", is also included.

Hi! Would you say this could be appropriate for second grade? Looks like you have a great unit here! Thanks!

Hi Amy,
Thanks for your interest. I have not used this product with 2nd graders, although I have used it successfully with my 3rd-5th grade students with special needs. I do think that 2nd graders could handle the unit. They may need more assistance than older students, especially with the reading passages. My advice would be to download the free preview offering, and if the reading level in that sample looks appropriate for your students, then they should be able to complete the unit successfully. Thank you, and merry Christmas!

Hey~
I saw that this had several grade levels listed...I teach 3rd grade, would this be appropriate? Also, is there any sort of assessment along with this or just interactive worksheets to do along with the lesson?
Thanks!!
~Amy~

Hi Amy,
Thanks for your question. This product is very appropriate for 3rd graders. I have used it successfully with this age student as well as with 4th and 5th graders. There are no assessments included in the product, just the activities listed in the description. One of the included activities is a chart for students to fill in listing the the gift bringer, foods, decorations, and traditions of the 4 main countries studied. This chart could be used as a sort of assessment after students complete the activities. Thanks again for your question!
