# Christmas/Holdiay Fraction Words: Identifying Fractional Parts

Are fractions a bore? Do you need something besides a "drill and kill" activity? In this five page handout, specific words are given. The students are instructed to figure out the correct fractional part of each particular word. (Example: The first 2/7 of WEATHER which would be WE.) If they correctly identify each fractional part, when they write the fractional parts on the lines provided, a new word is created. Each group of new words becomes a holiday message.

In the original handout, there are seven holiday messages all together. That means there are seven ways for the students to practice identifying fractional parts in lowest terms. Instead of completing all seven in one day, the puzzles may be divided up and used as a focus activity. Simply give the students one puzzle each day or intersperse them throughout the month of December. Answers are included at the end of the handout.
