In this lab, we will grow onions, and use the cells from the root tip to make our chromosome squash slide. Cells in the root tip are rapidly dividing by mitosis in order to make the root grow in length.
Purpose: (1) To learn the technique of making chromosome squashes. (2) To observe chromosomes in recently living cells. (3) To determine if the rate of cell division correlates with the growth of the plant.
