Circle Journals are a place for students to write collaboratively with a partner or a small group. They are passed back and forth for each collaborator to take a turn writing.

Circle Journals as Homework:
Collaborative journal writing is a way for children and their parents or other family members and caregivers to practice key writing types, (informative, narrative and argument), through authentic, real-life writing experiences. It's also a meaningful way for parents to participate in a fun writing routine with their child. As time goes on, these journals become a treasured family keepsake!

Circle Journals in Class:
These can also be used by groups of students in the classroom. Have groups write about content to process what they've learned; write about classroom community issues; or write just for fun, possibly as a once a week morning work assignment for table groups. Another option is to create a whole-class circle journal. (-A great fast finisher assignment!)

I am so sorry! I just discovered that my spam folder has been catching these emails, so I didn't realize your question was here.
The download includes a cover and one page to copy several times and use as the journal response pages. The responses are intended to be student generated so no prompts are included, but I included three pages with examples of the three kinds of writing that they can do. (Narrative, opinion, and factual.) You could certainly use them with any prompts you have on hand as well. Again, sorry for the delay! In fact, I would love to send you a product of your choice for free. Just reply to me at erinfw@ihmail.com with your choice.

Looks great...writing is so hard for some, no most children. Fun activities like this help so much!

How old is your son? Being a mother is the hardest job in the world. It is also the best job ever!!!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 10 years of teaching experience in the elementary grades, and 8 years as a parent. I'm passionate about creating products that combine what I know about education from both perspectives. Before staying home with my three young boys, I taught grades 3-6. I also subbed in grades K-12. I currently blog at www.smalltypes.com, where I exercise my "teacher brain" by sharing tips for parents to help them create a print-rich home. I keep up with best practices through continuing education; I volunteer in my sons' classrooms; and like most parents, I do plenty of after-school teaching to support my own kids' learning at home.
