Circle Journals are a place for students to write collaboratively with a partner or a small group. They are passed back and forth for each collaborator to take a turn writing.
Circle Journals as Homework:
Collaborative journal writing is a way for children and their parents or other family members and caregivers to practice key writing types, (informative, narrative and argument), through authentic, real-life writing experiences. It's also a meaningful way for parents to participate in a fun writing routine with their child. As time goes on, these journals become a treasured family keepsake!
Circle Journals in Class:
These can also be used by groups of students in the classroom. Have groups write about content to process what they've learned; write about classroom community issues; or write just for fun, possibly as a once a week morning work assignment for table groups. Another option is to create a whole-class circle journal. (-A great fast finisher assignment!)
