This class book activity is used when teaching the comprehension reading strategy Visualizing.
I use the Dr. Jean version of Luis Armstrong's song, "What A Wonderful World". You can find it on Dr. Jean's Just for Fun! cd. After introducing Visualizing for a few days, I turn off the lights, have the kids close their eyes and listen to the song. We discuss what pictures were in their brain during the song. The next day, I play the song again and stop it throughout the song so the kids can draw their visualizations along the way. I use this as a Portfolio Artifact. Then, we make this class book. Each student takes a page of the book to illustrate. If there aren't enough pages for each student, I let one person do a back cover, a front cover, title page, and an author page where each student signs their name.
I rotate my class books home to each student and this is one class book that I get a lot of positive parent feedback on! It turns out pretty cute and pulls at the heartstrings!
My children loved this! They sang along while they illustrated. I do wish there was a cover and title page all ready to illustrate like the other pages.

Thanks! We sing this song everyday as we come to the carpet. I'll have the kids make this book for Earth day this year.
