This SMARTBoard presentation is the third of five lessons in a unit titled, "Classifying Matter", which includes the lessons, "What Are Elements?", "What Are Compounds?", "What Are Mixtures and Solutions?", "How Can Substances Be Described?", and "How Do Substances Interact?". The first two lessons are presented in PowerPoint format. The last three lessons are designed for the SMARTBoard using Notebook software. These are all based upon information from the fifth grade Scott Foresman Science textbook. This third lesson contains fourteen SMARTBoard slides that present students with information about mixtures, compounds, and solutions. This PowerPoint presentation, as well as the other lessons in the series, were designed by Marie Wimsett.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Grades Taught:

I have been an elementary teacher for the past 15 years. I began my career teaching fourth grade. After four years, I moved to the fifth grade level, where I taught for nine years before returning to fourth grade. In addition to working as an elementary teacher, I have been a part-time lesson designer for the Library of Congress.
