For use as a classroom management tool, the paycheck system allows students to earn virtual "money" for completing their homework. They also earn money for completing an entire day without any inappropriate behaviors. This is an awards based system where students can practice depositing money into a deposit register and can use their balance to purchase items at a monthly auction. They are held accountable for their work and behavior which allows for a well managed classroom and responsible students.
Created by Nicole Solis based upon a KIPP model.

Included:
1) Sample paycheck from a 5th grade student
2) Blank, editable paycheck
3) Paycheck explanation and "rules"
4) Deposit register

I am just curious about the types of jobs you set up in the classroom. I am setting up a classroom for the first time and don't know where to start!

Love the idea, but is it time-consuming? Definitely would have to be practiced consistently for any impact. How long does it take to set up?
Also, what type of items are at the auctions, and who donates these?
Thanks.

I use the paychecks as a weekly progress report. By this time of year, I keep the paychecks at the students' desks and they mark them when I tell them to. I also fill them out when I check their homework to keep track of assignments and make sure I hold them accountable for incomplete homework. The parents love the feedback and the students respond well to the visual representations of behavior/homework. At the auctions, I have parents donate some items and I add some as well. I auction off erasers, mechanical pencils, stickers, I burn CD's of my favorite music I play in class, small notebooks, books, stuffed animals, silly bands, etc. -- Hope this helps!
