Cloudette by Tom Lichtenheld is a beloved little picture that is a perfect read aloud at the beginning of the year or anytime. The book's theme gently emphasizes that no matter one's size, we all have something big and important to contribute. We all have a silver lining!
This packet is intended to be used when reading the book aloud. However, activities can also be used if read in a small group or whole group. The packet would make a wonderful addition to a weather or science unit!
The reading level for the book is 2.7. Guided reading level is N
The activities that are included are flexible for use as whole class, small group, and some can be used in a literacy center.
Suggested grade level: 1-2 and advanced kindergarten students

*Story vocabulary clouds-Tier 2 and Tier & 3 words- two sorting activities to cut and paste. Alphabetical order and part of speech. Also included is a write and draw activity sheet
*Compound words matching cards to make compound words
*Contraction rainbows- write the words that make up each contraction
*Weather graphic organizer- for before, during, and after reading
*Story journal- a cover page and pages to make a booklet. Includes
activities for before, during, and after reading
*Idioms- Visualize what it means sheet
*Active Reading Strategies Included in This Packet:

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

24 years teaching reading and language arts, and I still LOVE it! I've been a reading specialist for the last ten years and most recently a literacy coach for Pre-K to grade 5 in an elementary school. I began my career teaching honors British and World Literature to high school juniors and seniors. Developed elective course curricula for Shakespeare and Women In Literature courses. Next, I moved on to middle school, teaching grade 8 English Language Arts for 7 years. English department chair for 6 years. Worked as a literacy resource teacher for grades 6-8 and wrote, coordinated, and led professional development to teachers on a weekly basis for four years.
