In this pretest, students look at images and try to activate prior knowledge they have about American colonization. They write 3-5 sentences about the pictures they choose to write about. This pre-assessment allows teachers to develop an awareness of students' prior knowledge and their misconceptions.
Students can return to this as they learn new things throughout your unit and add to or modify their prior knowledge. This can also be used as an open-ended post test to allow students to express what they have learned through the unit of study.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I am in my 8th year of teaching. Most of my teaching experience has been in 5th grade, but I taught 4th grade for two years and looped with those classes. I have a masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading and received National Boards Certification in Middle Childhood. Being an elementary teacher, I teach all subject areas and think about ways to engage children in content through collaboration and discussion.
